Floating Pennywort identified in Wildlife Pond

We have recently been notified that our wildlife pond has been invaded by Floating Pennywort (Hydrocolyle ranunculoides). This highly invasive aquatic plant will have a disastrous impact on our beautiful pond over time, unless severe and urgent action is taken.

We are, of course, preparing to tackle this incursion and will be getting hands-on (literally) imminently. So you may well see some of our volunteers donning their waders and wading in. Please note that this will be an official venture into the pond and does not give license to members of the public doing likewise. During this careful and time-consuming work we will be taking every available precaution to ensure that fragments are captured in the extraction process, and that waders and boots are thoroughly cleaned on leaving the pond.

The management of this invasion will be long-term and even once visible evidence has been removed there will be a requirement for further long-term monitoring into the future.
