Dead hedge removal

Pond with dead hedge removed

It was with great sadness today, that we took the decision to remove our experimental dead hedge from the wildlife pond area. Unfortunately this had seen just too much negative attention from destructive youths and was causing double the damage, with the hedge materials then used to vandalise the wildlife pond and disrupt our burgeoning aquatic environment.

Further vandalism occurred in the nearby, northside grassy bank (below the picnic benches), where newly acquired wild grass plugs had recently been planted. The boulders used to stabilise the bank for planting had suffered equally badly, with many being lobbed into the pond, along with the life preserver. This sort of behaviour is particularly distressing to see within such a beautiful, budding natural environment and causes a great deal of heartache to our hardworking volunteers, who give up their precious time to help in creating a restorative, welcoming outdoor space for local communities.
