We were delighted to have such beautiful sunshine for our dead hedge tutorial this afternoon and look forward to the constructive use of some of our pruned branches and other dead wood around the park. We have begun construction of this dead hedge near the pond in a multi-focused approach: to offer protection to the pond within this high traffic area, to create much-needed habitat for our smaller mammals (whilst recycling available materials) and as a deterrent to over-enthusiastic dogs making a bee-line for the water.
This is a fascinating use of traditional skills and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in good company. Thanks again to all of our fabulous volunteers for their help.
Should you have any queries or want to know more about the dead hedging work going on around the park, please do get in touch. We’d be delighted to invite any new volunteers to share in this activity should they be interested in helping out.
